Douglas MacArthur State Technical College, located in Opp, Alabama, received an approximate 1.5 million-dollar Title III grant on June 26, 1998, under the federal government's program for strengthening institutions. The funds will arrive in increments over the next five years for the purpose of advancing the campus technologically.
Installation of the fiber optic network infrastructure was completed Fall 1998, which provides a centralized administrative network for faculty & staff, as well as enables internet access from faculty & staff offices and student labs. The Title III team ordered computer hardware and software to fulfill year one grant needs. Sixty-six Dell OptiPlex GX1's (350 MHz, 128 MB RAM) and 4 Dell Poweredge Servers arrived the first week in March 1999, and the Title 3 team configured and installed all systems in faculty & staff offices and student labs.
